Equalizer Competition Again Matches Men versus Women for $10,000 Bonus
St. Paul, Minn. : September 28, 2017 – The USATF Mens and Womens 10 Mile Championships return to the Medtronic TC 10 Mile for the third year in a row on October 1, kicking off the Sunday racing at the 36th annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend.
The race will draw three U.S. Olympians to the streets of Minneapolis and St. Paul where a record prize purse of $96,950 is on offer, including a $12,000 winners check. In addition, the event will again feature the $10,000 Equalizer Bonus for the first USATF Champion – male or female – to cross the State Capitol grounds finish line. Competitors in the USATF Womens Championship will be given a head start on the men.
Aliphine Tuliamuk (Santa Fe, N.M.), the 2016 womens runner-up and current leader of the womens USATF Running Circuit, returns to headline the womens field, with 2016 fourth-place finisher Sara Hall (Big Bear, Calif.) and Natosha Rogers (Littleton, Colo.), this years USATF Half Marathon champion. 2012 Olympian Shalaya Kipp joins the talented field as well.
The mens field will be driven by Leonard Korir (Colorado Springs, Colo.), current leader of the mens USATF Running Circuit, a 2016 Olympian at 10,000 meters and a member of the Army World Class Athlete Program, Tim Ritchie (Boston, Mass.), third in last years race, and Martin Hehir (Flagstaff, Ariz.), the runner-up at this years Philadelphia Rock n Roll Half Marathon and fourth-place finisher at last years USATF 10 Mile Championships. Shadrack Kipchirchir (Colorado Springs, Colo.), also a member of the Armys World Class Athlete Program and a 2016 Olympian in the 10,000 meters, is expected to challenge.

Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend kicks off on Friday, September 29, with the Health & Fitness Expo at Saint Paul RiverCentre. The Expo, which runs through Saturday, September 30, features more than 100 exhibitors, a full schedule of presentations, and packet pick up for the weekends races. 30,000 people are expected to participate in running events held Saturday, September 30, and Sunday, October 1.
The Saturday Events at the State Capitol grounds in St. Paul include the TC 10K, TC 5K, presented by Fredrikson & Byron, and the Medtronic TC Family Events. The Medtronic TC 10 Mile kicks off Sunday racing and is followed by the signature event of the weekend, the 36th annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon.
