St. Paul, Minn. – September 25, 2017 – New features abound at the 36th annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend, September 29 – October 1 in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Participants, volunteers and spectators at the event will find amenities to enhance their experience of the event.

Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon App

The new, full-featured Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon app will allow spectators to track athletes in the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon and Medtronic TC 10 Mile. Runners and fans can use the app to find their way on Marathon Weekend, share experiences via social media and stay up-to-date on the latest updates about the event. The app is available by searching for “TC Marathon” in an app store.

Complimentary Participant Photos

Marathon Weekend runners will enjoy complimentary race photos in 2017, another first. Photos will be available by opting in to the Pic2Go experience-sharing platform and having photos uploaded directly to their Facebook account on race-day, or by downloading high resolution photos from their email account post-event. Runners can opt in to the service at the Health & Fitness Expo at St. Paul RiverCentre or with the app.

New Podcast

In the run-up to Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend, Twin Cities In Motion launched Move. Together. a podcast about running and community in Minneapolis-St. Paul and beyond. Last week’s episode offered expert tips for everyone running on Marathon Weekend — from kids to beginner 5K runners to marathoners. An inspirational new episode will be released Tuesday, September 26th. Move. Together. can be found at PodcastOne, iTunes or wherever one downloads podcasts.

Personal Record Bell

Runners can ring out their triumphs when they set a personal record — including finishing their longest race or their first marathon – with the PR Bell presented by West Monroe Partners. The PR Bell will be located in the GMC Finish Like a Pro 27th Mile.

Charging Station & Lounge

Finish line food and drink recharges the body, but the Entrust Datacard Charging Station & Lounge will top off electronic devices throughout Marathon Weekend. Participants and fans can plug in, sit down, and feel the energy. The Entrust Datacard Charging Station & Lounge is located in the GMC Finish Like a Pro 27th Mile near the PR Bell.

Free Recovery Therapy for Corporate Teams

Post-race recovery therapy for Corporate Team Challenge runners will be provided free of charge by Corporate Team Challenge presenting sponsor Orthology. The therapy will be offered in the Corporate Team Challenge tent at the finish line, which also features exclusive snacks and warm beverages for the hundreds of Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend participants who compete for their company’s teams.

Brooks Infinite Energy Mile

Not to be forgotten among the new amenities is Brooks Running Company’s Infinite Energy Mile, announced last week. Any runner whose split time from mile marker 21 to 22 is faster than their average pace from the start of the race to mile 21 will receive a brand new pair of Brooks Levitates.

Traditions Continue As Well

Tradition will still be honored at the storied event first run in 1982. Runners will still run through course tunnels sponsored by Caribou Coffee and title sponsor Medtronic, power through the ALARC Wall at mile 20, and be welcomed at the finish line with secret-until-race-day finisher medals and finisher shirts plus a free beer from Summit Brewing Company.

Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend kicks off at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 29, with the opening of the Health & Fitness Expo at Saint Paul RiverCentre. The expo, which runs through Saturday evening, features more than 100 exhibitors, a full schedule of free presentations, and packet pick up for the weekend’s races.

30,000 people are expected to participate in running events held Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1. Saturday events at the State Capitol grounds in St. Paul include the TC 10K, the TC 5K, presented by Fredrikson & Byron, and the Medtronic TC Family Events.

The Medtronic TC 10 Mile, known as the Shortcut to the Capitol®, starts in downtown Minneapolis and kicks off the Sunday races at approximately 6:54 a.m. The Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon follows at 7:55 a.m. This marks the signature race’s 36th year serving as the Twin Cities’ premier marathon.
