The 3 P’s of Speed

Acceleration is one of the defining hallmarks of a great athlete. At Nationwide Children’s Hospital, our Sports Performance team says every kid is capable of improving speed and acceleration with proper training. And that begins with the 3 P’s – Position, Pattern and Power.
Position: examining an athlete’s mobility and stability for optimal positioning and body control.
Pattern: applying position techniques with proper mechanics to create movement and fluidity.
Power: using traditional strength exercises and plyometrics to make every step more explosive. The goal of the 3 P’s is to help kids get physically faster and have that translate to success in game situations. Because the number one quality that every coach and athlete seeks is speed.
