Ethiopeans Tsedat Abege Ayana (2h06:36) and Guteni Shone Imana (2h24:29) smash the male and female course records at the 35th Zurich Maraton de Sevilla, the flattest marathon course in Europe with 12,500 participants.
The Zurich Maraton de Sevilla 2019 has been the fastest in its history with two new course records and five men sub 2h07. Today, 12,500 participants have run in a brand new course which improves the start and finish line venue, and Its even faster than before, just 10 meters elevation change, so its still the flattest marathon course in Europe.
The battle for the male victory was very interesting. A group of five athletes from Ethiopia have run together to the last meters of the race after crossing the half marathon in 1h03:18), but Tsedat Abege Ayana (Ethiopia) pulled away 500 meters before the finish line to get a solid victory in 2h06:26, new course record. Another 4 athletes have improved the previous course record and clocked in 2h06. Belay Asefa Bedada was second in 2h06:39, Birhanu Bekele Berga, third (2h06:41), Obukay Tsegay, fourth and new Eritrean Record (2:06:46) and, finally, Daniel Kiptores, fifth in2:06:49. Israelite Maru Teferi got today the national record in 2h10:11
Guteni Shone Imana also smashed the course record finishing in 2h24:28, one minute less than 2018 winner Kaoutar Boulaid. Guteni Shone run in her own the last kilometres and got a smooth victory in Seville. Abeba Tekelu, from Ethiopia was first runner up in 2h24:49, and Dinkesa Yenenesh (2h25:54) finished third in a in a thrilling race.
Zurich Maraton de Sevilla – awarded IAAF Gold Label, is the flattest marathon course in Europe. The event is opening its door to the international runners community and has a brand new and absolutely flat race course in one of the most scenic venue possible, in the city centre of Seville.
