The aim of the Dubai Fitness Challenge 2018 was to get residents in the city to be more active. And it succeeded.
The 30-day citywide event saw a massive 34 percent increase in participation compared to 2017, hitting a record-breaking 1,053,100 people take part in order to get fit and stay healthy.
The recently released assessment revealed that 92 percent of those who joined completed a minimum of 30 minutes of daily physical activities. And that’s on top of the 90 percent that completed it in 2017.
To break down that number even further, 61 percent of participants recorded at least 30 to 60 minutes, 21 percent 60 to 90 minutes and 10 percent over 90 minutes.
The 30×30 Challenge featured a larger, more inclusive programme, with an extensive range of fitness and sporting activities including 8,000 workout sessions, free-to-attend activations, wellness workshops and training sessions across 250 locations.
The challenge also brought in international sports celebreties, including Sir Mo Farah taking in on during his visit to the city and Marcus Smith, a Dubai resident who ran 30 marathons in 30 days.
“The second edition of Dubai Fitness Challenge, an incredible initiative of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has dramatically changed the mind-sets of people towards achieving positive social and lifestyle changes”, said CEO of Dubai
Festivals and Retail Establishment Ahmed Al Khaja.
“We are confident that 2019 will only draw even greater city-wide participation, and we will continue to work with the support of our partners and the community.”
Some of the most popular activities of the event included running, yoga, zumba, Pilates, football, cricket, swimming, kayaking and even weightlifting.
The new bar set is in line with His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council’s vision of making.
Want to continue that fitness trend? The Tough Mudder is returning to the UAE in March, being run for the first time ever in Ras Al Khaimah, before heading Dubai in April.
Keep it up, Dubai.
