36th Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend Kicks Off at State Capitol Grounds


Jess Palmer and Sheryl McCammon Run to TC 10K Victories

St. Paul, Minn. : September 30, 2017 – Jess Palmer of Lone Tree, Colo. and Sheryl McCammon of Shoreview won the men’s and women’s divisions of today’s TC 10K, the opening event of the 2017 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend, which culminates Sunday with the 19th annual Medtronic TC 10 Mile and the 36th Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon.

Palmer clocked 34:10 over the 6.2 mile course that started and finished on the State Capitol grounds in St. Paul. Jeff Lombardo of Lakeville was second (34:58), while John Leaf of Minneapolis (35:30) was third. McCammon ran 38:20 to lead the women. Anna Molinaro of Mendota Heights was the women’s runner-up (40:27), with Michelle Sancartier of St. Paul was third (41:06).

The TC 10K, part of a full morning of competition for runners of all ages and paces, was followed by the TC 5K, presented by Fredrikson & Byron, where Trevor Capra of Lakeville won the men’s competition in 14:42 and Bre Sieracki of Spring Valley, Wisc. topped the women in 17:01. More than 4,600 runners competed in the TC 10K and TC 5K.

Additionally, more than two thousand runners, mostly kids, competed in the KARE 11 Family Mile, part of the Medtronic TC Family Events which also included a diaper dash, toddler trot and half mile for its youngest participants.

The day wasn’t just for kids; 82 corporate teams with more than a thousand runners total raced in the Corporate Team Challenge competitions of the TC 10K and TC 5K.

“It was a beautiful fall day to celebrate running for people of all ages,” Twin Cities In Motion executive director Virginia Brophy Achman said. “We had great weather and we were pleased to see so many people show their commitment for fitness and health by joining us, and modeling healthy behavior for kids.”

Medtronic TC 10 Mile and Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon

Racing kicks off tomorrow at 6:54 a.m. with the Medtronic TC 10 Mile, where professional runners will compete for the USATF Men’s and Women’s 10 Mile Championships. The 36th Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon follows at 7:55 a.m. for wheelers and duos and 8:00 for runners.

More than 30,000 runners of all ages have registered to participate in Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend events.
